The Rest of the Story
Buddle Skincare
A Letter from the Founder
Hey there! I'm Joelle VanGuilder, Co-Founder and Head Mama of The Goodsprout Company.
As a mom of four children, all with sensitive skin, I've had experience with a wide range of skin issues over the years, including the dreaded and sometimes painful diaper rash. When my oldest daughter became a mom, I realized she was using the same mediocre diaper rash products I had used, which were pretty much the same products my mom had used. This was shocking to me. It had been almost thirty years! Strollers, car seats, and everything else had noticeably improved — why hadn't diaper rash products? Furthermore, some were still using dangerous or questionable ingredients like talc and parabens, which took me from 'Shocked Mom' to 'Mom on a Mission.'
With our collective experience in prescription and over-the-counter skincare products, my husband and I set off on a mission to find a better way. We assembled a group of pediatric dermatologists, pediatricians, microbiome experts, and formulation chemists to take a deep dive into the unique needs of baby's maturing skin, the complex diaper microenvironment, the interaction between the gut microbiome and skin microbiome, and diaper rash itself. After two years of research and rigorous testing, the Buddle Diaper Rash System was born.
From the ingredients and formulations inside to the beauty outside, we have exhaustively focused on every detail of our products to ensure they are the safest and most effective for our kiddos and yours. It's a commitment we take seriously. Whether it's the rigorous clinical, safety, and efficacy testing, sourcing the best raw ingredients from across the world, or manufacturing our products in the USA at FDA registered and inspected facilities, our commitment is to provide the highest quality products for your family and ours.
When you buy a Buddle Skincare product, you are not just buying a product; you are joining a community of moms (and some dads!) on a mission to advance children's skincare. We are grateful to be on that mission with you.
The Science Behind the System
Buddle's approach began with a fundamental insight: newborn skin is not just small adult skin. It can be up to ten times more sensitive and 30% thinner than adult skin, with reduced moisturizing capacity and lower skin lipid production, making it far more susceptible to irritation and inflammation. The diapering area adds another layer of complexity. It is the only place on the body where the skin microbiome meets the gut microbiome, creating a delicate environment where the goal is to remove harmful irritants and microbes without disturbing the beneficial ones. On top of that, the covered, occluded nature of the diaper area increases temperature, humidity, and skin pH in ways that significantly affect the skin barrier.
Understanding all of this required experts. Buddle assembled a medical advisory board that includes Dr. Kalyani Marathe, MD, MPH, a board-certified pediatric dermatologist and Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati; Dr. Fred Ghali, MD, a dually board-certified pediatrician and pediatric dermatologist with over 20 years of practice and more than 30 peer-reviewed publications; and Dr. Kimberly Capone, PhD, a pioneer in microbiology and the human microbiome who previously led the Microbiome Platform at Johnson and Johnson Consumer, Inc. These are not names on a label. They are the researchers whose expertise shaped every product formula.
Clinically Proven Results
Buddle conducted a four-week clinical study on 40 babies. By the end of the study, 100% of the babies were free of diaper rash. Ninety percent of parents said the Buddle System was more effective at preventing diaper rash than what they had previously used. One hundred percent of parents found the system easy to use. Ninety-five percent said they would recommend Buddle to a friend. These are not marketing numbers. They are the findings of a rigorous clinical study, on file and available.
