I'm Ernie. I started Bull Sheath in 2017 because I believed a wallet should outlive the person who carries it — not end up in a landfill two years later.

What started at one bench in Mansfield, Texas has grown into a team of artisans who share that same obsession. Every wallet is still cut, sewn by hand on our leather sewing machines, and finished right here in our workshop. No shortcuts. No third-party production.

Four Steps. No Shortcuts.

Every Bull Sheath wallet moves through the same four stages, in the same order, on the same bench:

Step 1 — Select the Hide: Horween Dublin leather, full-grain and vegetable-tanned in Chicago. Every side is inspected for grain, color, and temper before it ever touches the bench.

Step 2 — Cut by Hand: Depending on the piece, the team traces templates, presses clicker dies, or runs a laser — sometimes all three in a single batch. Every method is hands-on.

Step 3 — Sewn by Hand: Every wallet is sewn by hand on professional leather sewing machines, guiding each seam with the kind of control no automated line can replicate. Tight, even, built to last.

Step 4 — Burnish and Ship: Edges are sanded, waxed, and slicked smooth by hand. Then each wallet gets stamped and inspected. If it doesn't pass Ernie's own bench test, it never ships.

The Material: Why Full-Grain Matters

Full-grain leather is the top layer of the hide, untouched. Pores, scars, and all. It's the strongest, densest part of the hide — and the only kind worth stitching. It develops a patina. It softens. It records the shape of your pocket. A full-grain wallet at five years looks better than the day you bought it.

"Genuine leather" is the lowest grade that still gets to call itself leather. It's split, sanded, and embossed with a fake grain. It cracks in two years. "Bonded leather" isn't leather at all — it's leather dust glued onto fabric. Bull Sheath won't make it, and they won't sell it.
