The Rest of the Story
Lost Dutchman Leather
It Started at Age 12
I was 12 years old when I discovered leathercraft. It immediately spoke to me. The ability to express creativity into a raw piece of leather and create something beautiful and durable became my obsession. Throughout my teens I made stuff for friends and family, and in 2019 I started selling my products online. Now, we have a team of people just as dedicated to the craft as I was. We continue to prioritize craftsmanship, durability, and functional design; and we still make everything in the USA. Because of people like you, who believe in true American craftsmanship, a 12-year-old’s dream has come true.
— Nate, Founder
The Process: 100% Handmade, No Exceptions
Lost Dutchman Leather takes an uncompromising approach to their craft. Founder Nate considers the process to be the most important aspect of leatherwork, operating on the belief that quality materials without careful, considerate crafting will result in nothing more than a mediocre product. That is why every product is made 100% by hand, without any machines used in any part of the process.
Yes, doing everything by hand takes more time. But it results in a superior product. Nate’s goal has always been to produce the highest quality work possible, creating leather goods that tell a story of excellence, attention to detail, and deep respect for the traditional techniques used by the earliest leatherworkers.
From a Young Maker to a Team of Dedicated Craftspeople
What began as a teenage obsession in Arizona grew into a real business when Nate opened an Etsy shop in 2017. Customers began buying, and he kept making. Over time, Lost Dutchman Leather grew into a full team of craftspeople who share Nate’s passion for quality and tradition. Today, the brand continues to make everything in the USA, holding true to the same values that drove a 12-year-old to pick up his first piece of leather.
Based in Mesa, Arizona
Lost Dutchman Leather is proudly rooted in the American Southwest, named with a nod to the legendary Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine of Arizona. The brand carries that same spirit of discovery and craftsmanship in everything they make.
